Energetic day today- good fun though - I met two of my very oldest friends (both Élysée substitutes) in St James's Park for tea and then we went to the Northern European Renaissance exhibition at the Queen's Gallery. The gallery was full of flunkeys and lackeys all dressed up as usual, but the pictures were amazing! Durer's illustrations from Revelations, more Holbeins than you can shake a stick at and a Breugel which we had never heard of -'Massacre of the Innocents' but the children all seemed to be indoors, although there were armed men trying to break into their houses - and they were massacring animals, including a turkey! 1540ish so turkeys were not common and two beautiful tapestries that Henry 8 had 'acquired' from Wolsey.we got our tickets stamped so now we can go back free for a year - only fair really as our taxes pay for it all! And the metatarsals have borne up wonderfully well all things considered.
