Well, I can see it has some merit, but I must confess I nearly lost the will to live reading Thermidor! I persevered through a kind of skim reading and was rewarded with these two quotes, both put into the mouth of Billaud, which is almost more than flesh and blood can bear:

'Camille's sarcasm, sharp as steel, was a force to be reckoned with. His slander was like a poisoned arrow. That was an enemy to beware of'

'I despise Vilate's hack writing because it is worthless. On the contrary Camille's silliest, commonest personal attack meant in my view as much as a death sentence'

No comfort I know, none possible really, but still..................
